The Oahu Visitor Bureau recently sent a delegation of people from the various industries related to tourism to Japan to promote Hawaii products and travel. In places like Fukuoka, all things Hawaii are very popular. There are far more people practicing hula in Japan than in all of Hawaii. We were told that in the city of Fukuoka alone, there are over 10,000 hula dancers. There are many Hawaii related festivals throughout Japan every year. The state of Hawaii is trying to attract Japanese travelers back to Hawaii as numbers have slipped in recent years.
