I was on the big island of hawaii. We went to this black sand beach that we had to hike down to get to. There was a shallow river dividing 2 halves of the beach. There was this hawaiian family there, and the one whom i thought was the father was overweight. Anyways, he got in the river, about 2 ft deep and laid down on his stomach on the river floor, completely immersing himself under the river. He did this several times. Is this some kind of hawaiian ritual or was the dude just weird?

could of been very hot? some of those rivers or fresh waters are super cold.

If this big dude was just chillin, thats how he does it hawaiian style!

Sounds like that dude was just weird. i grew up in hawaii and have never heard of that. You may want to do research on that beach though because the big island has a lot of history and maybe that location had something to do with the royalty of that island.

I agree with the first poster. I’ve never seen anyone do that before, especially in a river (where we don’t really have any). It may be a Hawaiian ritual; I have no clue. Research it.

Black sand beaches are very very hot. He was probably just cooling off in the river, what is so weird about that? Fresh water rivers in Hawaii are very cold, and it would have been a lot more refreshing than the ocean, which is very warm. What would make anyone think that it was a "ritual" anyway? Because he was Hawaiian? Come on you guys!
